I have a 1985 Honda Nighthawk that when I bought from a friend, it had a tachometer on it, but the needle was stuck at 2500rpms and my friend said that he just kept it unplugged because it always gave him problems. So when learning how to ride I just listened to the bike to know when to shift. It has been some time now and I have recently been learning to drive stick in a car. When I drive in my car, the rpm gauge is very helpful especially for getting the best mpg. So after waiting on the right ebay bid I got a new speedo and rpm gauge for $50. The gauges came attached to the panel above where the key goes. So when I got it I cleaned off the spider webs and dead spiders (literally) and took off the speedo and tach. i cleaned them up with windex and oiled the gaskets with motor oil. I bought a tach cable from bikebandit.com and now I am waiting for it to warm up so i can dewinterize my bike. Problem is, I don't really know how to install this tach. I hooked the cable into the gauge and it didn't seem like I could get the metal piece to go inside the tach before I screwed it in and though I know where to put the cable into in my bike (it's plugged now), I don't know how to attach the cable.
