I have a 1996 750.  I have Nelson Riggs soft bags that I just lay the
strap across the top of the seat behind me.  These work great for this
bike and my 1982 650. I've seen the CoreTech ones on another one in
town.  Bottom line - you can put soft bags on these bikes.  Funny
thing is that with mine and the guy who had the CoreTech ones you have
to put them on backwards for foot clearance......

However, I was looking at the rail that runs below and parallel with
seat.  It's nice strong steel.  I would bet that you could mount many
different bags by drilling and taping that bar and mount hard bags to
that.  You'd have to have the bags in hand and see how they line-up
because they can't hang that low.

Check out the Homemade luggage rack posting - if you have the skills
and access to the tools you could use the same idea to mount any bags
you want.
