You don't have to go to a bike shop (and pay bike shop prices) to
get oils you can safely use with a wet clutch. There is a spec
called JASO-MA that is specifically aimed at motorcycles with wet
clutches. Any oil that meets that spec is safe for your bike. Some
oils that meet the spec are Shell Rotella T and T5 (available at
Walmart), as well as Valvoline 4-stroke motorcycle oil and Castrol 4T
(available at Autozone and other car part stores). If you buy it
where they don't sell motorcycles, the price is about the same as car
oil. My buddy picked up some Rotella T for his Nighthawk yesterday
for $3/qt.

If your clutch is slipping because of friction modifiers in the oil,
it will usually go away completely after 1 oil change, but I've seen
cases where it took a couple of change cycles to get completely back
to normal.
