There were no filters on mine, but who knows. There's not a lot of air being sucked up through there. A few inches of hose hanging straight down would at least keep the rain out. If you found some tiny enough K&Ns to stick on the end of them it'd probably help. Might look neat too. Glen is right though, there's also a tiny vacuum hose from the lefthand carb to the fuel petcock. There's no T-fittings there though.
