I had an 87 wing, it had the 1200. I had it for 8 years. It had 35000 mi. when
I bought it and had 87000 when I sold it. The Speedo didn't work when I bought
it so there is no telling how many mis. it really had. I never had any problems
with the bike. I bought a Harly and wish I had keep the Wing.

Paul and All,
          (Hey that rhymes!)
Unfortunately the GL 1200 will not be following me home. Current
repairs to the house are swallowing all available extra cash, plus a bit more.
(My life is getting in the way of my motorcycling!)
Another friend of the family has a GoldWing of approximately the same
era - think it might be an 82 or 83 - and its up for grabs. I'm going to see
about it and perhaps some much lower cost option can be arranged.
         We'll see.
Keep you all in the loop!
           -Joey

Pretty wild Joey, but I'm glad you got things worked out.

One word on the Wing--since it's an '84 you're talking about a GL1200, which
was the Honda engine known for running hot and frying the wiring harness that
leads to the stator, thus requiring stator replacement. (You probably know all
this.) A simple wiring work-around can keep the burn out from happening if the
stator hasn't already been (I've done the rewiring myself) but it would be
prudent to ask the seller if anything has been done along those lines.

I totally understand the back and neck issues. I've owned two Nighthawks and
loved them both, but just couldn't go very far on either because I need back
support on longer rides. (In other words, I need to be reclining slightly with
something against my back.)

Let me know what you decide along those lines and shoot some pictures our way
of the "intended."

Hello all,
Last night, when I arrived at a friends house to watch the
fireworks, I discovered two puddles under my NH. One is normal - one
of my carbs leaks out the drain line. Has for 11,000 miles. The other
however, caused me some concern. Upon inspection I found lubricating
oil leaking out of the O-ring gasket under the oil filter cover.
Words were uttered. (Some under my breath)
Checking the oil level - I discovered she was not
significantly low - and I rode her the mile back home. My first
thought was I'm very glad this didn't start on my 331 mile day last
week.
Today I called three auto parts places to find one with the
proper oil filter in stock and not having enough time to get in
contact with my Amsoil dealer, I took someones suggestion (Graham
perhaps?) and picked up a gallon of Rotella T.
Not having my own garage - I made a speed trip to my Folks
place, smelling burning oil and feeling it hit my boot the whole way.
Not a good feeling. Upon arrival I dropped the oil and filter and gave
a very detailed inspection to the cover, the o-rings involved and the
channels they ride in. Neither Dad nor I could find any problems. So,
put fresh oil in and a new filter installed, and off for a test ride.
No issues at all - put about 125 miles on - no issues. I'm
flabbergasted. Never had anything like this happen on this bike and
Dad has never seen anything like it either. Anyone else have thoughts
on the subject?
In the middle of my 125 mile extended test ride, I happened
upon a 1984 Goldwing with the Interstate package for sale. Threw a leg
over it and discovered that, much to my surprise, my 30" inseam is
sufficient to ride on one. (Wanna guess what I'm thinking of doing to
solve my long distance cramping problem?)
Overall a good day - but not what I'd hoped I'd be doing.
         -Joey
