If the clutch "slips" or spins while increasing throttle, cable made
need adjustment or clutch plates are worn.

What motor oil are you using?  If it's intended for cars (contains
friction modifiers, for example), that could cause the clutch to
slip.  If that's case, switching to a motorcycle-specific oil will
cure the problem.
