+2 on the PB.  I've used it in hopelessly rusted situations and
managed to worry things apart intact.

WD40's active ingredient is naptha (lighter fluid) which works as a
degreaser, combined with what used to be called "pale oil," a very
thin, fine machine oil (same ingredients are in Seafoam, by the way).
Never had much luck with it as a heavy duty penetrant.

Used to work on V-dubs myself and had occasion to use its water
displacement feature to dry out condensation under distributor caps.
Worked real good for that.
