White smoke is usually a sign of a cracked head, in a liquid cooled engine; are you sure it's white, and not blue? Valve stem seals leaking cause smoke on startup and it would be bluish. White is an indication of water, and is present at startup in just about all engines, in visible form, in cold temperatures. The larger the engine the greater the steam. Air cooled engines also. I have never heard of a rich mixture giving off white smoke. If there is too much fuel going through the engine it would come out black and spew the soot all over the pavement.

My 93 smokes when I first start it up while cold, then clears up as it warms. White smoke is typically an overly rich condition, unburned fuel going out the exhaust; can you smell fuel?
