Uni sells a recharge kit too. Like I said their "oil" is a sticky substance more than an oil I would get that rather than the K&N. Since the uni is foam based rather than cloth.

Hmmm. JC Whitney sells a UNI foam filter for $9.99 and if I bought the K&N air filter oil (aerosol can) for $8.18 I would be in it for a lot less than an actual K&N filter. I wonder....

Paul,
Usually they come pre-oiled - but they recommend that you wash and re-oil them after a certain number of miles.

Graham,
It more resembles Marvel Mystery Oil - its red in color - a very light oil - it is lighter than transmission fluid but a similar color. As to 'how can you tell its better' - I don't know - I assume you can flow test it on a bench - but I can confirm that I did get more power and gas mileage with the K&N than before.

Javier is correct - K&N's are washable and can be re-coated with their 'Filter Fluid' - they also provide more flow without losing filtration than a stock filter (usually a good thing but not for lean jetted Hondas!) I run one on my car and got about two more miles to the gallon because it uncorked a few more ponies in the engine and it doesn't shift down as much.

I think.
