Graham,
Assuming you have a Goldwing GL1100 Interstate here are the
instructions for removing the rear wheel:
1. Put the motorcycle on it's center stand (duh!)
2. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolts and nuts
3. Raise the rear while with a block of wood large enough that the
axle clears the muffler
4. After raising the caliper, remove the three final drive case
nuts and pull the wheel backwards, then remove the wheel from the
left.
These instructions are unique to the 1980 and 81 Interstate.

I think I see how it can be removed the same way as any one of my
Nighthawks (without the saddle bag paraphernalia) because the axle
clears the mufflers, am I right? I'm only buying this bike if it's
a great deal like the '84 Wing I bought last winter for $500. It
was in pristine shape, just needed air in the tires, a new starter
motor, battery and polishing. I bought it for an Amish friend who I
made promise that he would give it to me for the same price if he
ever wanted to sell it. He drops in now and then to gloat. Graham
