That's the problem, to further confuse things on some bikes the lever is down to engage the choke and on others it's up. So forget the position of the lever, or the terms open or closed or on or off. The plungers, pulled out means choke is engaged for cold start, pushed all the way in means disengaged for normal operation. The should never be pulled out when going down the road.
