I've never seen shavings like that created by break in. That half round one 
looks just like a peeling from a piston liner.

I haven't had much time to work on it, but I thought I would take a
picture of the metal shavings I found in the oil pan (link above).
The shavings worry me because of their varying sizes, but I wonder if
I should be too alarmed.  This engine only has 3,400 miles on it - I
wonder if these shavings are simply from the motor being broken in and
the original owner never flushed the oil.  As always, any input is
greatly appreciated!
