Don't have the Clymer manual here at work, will look tonite and send you the
spec.
I wondered why it's plastic, too, but then again the oil cap on the other side
of the bike is plastic, too. Maybe it holds better as the oil heats up? Anyone
know for sure?

It took a LOT of will power to torque it down to spec once I had it on the
bike, visions of another split were dancing through my head, but it torqued
down fine.
I have no idea what kind of pressure builds up under the cap (it's plastic
after all) so maybe some cork or a bit of hardening putty might work, but
personally, I'd just go for the new cap.

warehouse,
and wherever I got it from (online, dealer, etc) that the bike is so old
that it's *very* unlikely anyone would have it in stock, and I'd have to
wait for Honda to ship it to them, and then get it from them, and there's

close honda dealer that would be much faster than 2-day UPS. Honda is
the
bottleneck, and the ones charging absurd prices for OEM parts ($50 for a
fuel hose -- really???).
