Touchy subject still, but I believe in free choice too. But to be a free and
clear choice, people have to also be able to refuse to, say, insure you, or
treat you if you did something monumentally stupid like not wearing a helmet or
a seatbelt and you cause yourself injury that could have easily been prevented.

I hate that this guy died. I wish he hadn't. In fact, I'm not even going to say
that I wish he had simply cracked his head hard or rattled his brain to make
the point. I wish that kind of harm only on my enemies, and I don't even know
him. If he /had/ to wreck, by some divine force, I do just wish he'd had the
head thump and brain rattle rather than the death, though. At least then he
could recover and continue living, possibly with a changed outlook on helmets.

I'm just saying that it's pretty bone-headed (or not) to not take even the
simplest of precautions to protect one of the few organs you have that doesn't
grow back.

And yes, I take much the same view on things like seatbelts (my new girlfriend
and I are already butting heads over this, she just doesn't have the habit of
putting it on, I make her put it on in my car) or riding around in the bed of a
pickup truck (which is in and of itself illegal just because of the belt laws,
it doesn't have to be explicitly banned people. My state... *Facepalm*).

This is the same as the seatbelt argument - it's really up to the individual,
but you're taking a big risk if you don't. I think about my wife every time I
go on the road and what she would have to do if I lost my life because of such
a simple thing.
