I guess I just wasn't clear, sorry. What I was trying to say was that bias-ply tires are inherently stiffer (hence why they ride harsher). Because of this radials need lower profiles and thicker sidewalls to be rigid enough. This affects rim design as radial rims have a wider bead area. So if you mount radials on bias-ply rims they don't seat fully and can break the bead under load. Also a radial will have a smaller circumference and will throw your speedo off, as well as change the bikes front rear weight bias tending to shift it rear wards as most bikes have a wider rear tire(thus more of a change) ,and older bikes usually have larger sidewall profile on the rear. This can negatively affect handling. That's my understanding of why you shouldn't run radials on a bike not designed for them, take it for what's its worth. Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
