The carbs may be leaking air at the cylinder head. Try spraying some starter fluid at the boots between the carbs and the cylinders while she's running. If she idles even faster, she's leaking air and running too lean, causing your problem. I had the same issue until I got the boots properly snugged down and sealed. Just be careful not to tighten too much.
