How often should we be checking our battery levels? Assuming of course our bike is "right side up"?

The green and red dashlights came on and there was a click and then they went off. Ifiddled the key and they came on again and then a click and they wentoff. After that, nothing. All lights off anddead. This afternoon, Ipopped off the side cover and pulled the battery. All the cellswere down to 30 to 40% of the optimal fill levels. I filled all thecells up to the correct levels and popped the battery back in and VROOM, I hada running bike again. I remember nowthat this happened about a year ago. Maybe my voltage regulator ispumping in a bit too much juice? Ah well, it’s an easy thing to checkperiodically. Just a heads upthan not all the problems we’re going to face are going to be toughones. I really love these bikes.
