Ron,
Out of curiosity - have you tried adjusting the rear suspension -
making it stiffer?
I had the same problem with my GS-1000 - fighting traffic I went
from a very heavy brake application to very heavy throttle to accelerate
ahead of traffic coming behind me. Unfortunately, with my GF riding two up
- we found out how easily the 1000 can wheelie in first gear.
With just me riding, I have yet to wheelie the 1000 - but I'm sure
I could if I wanted to.
Thanks for the words of advice!
        -Joey
