Not to be "that guy" but I'm going to soapbox for a moment and say that there is no "choke" in the traditional sense of the word. We have fuel enrichener valves. It's very confusing. Add in the fact that different years the lever goes in different directions, and, well... you get the idea. Anyway!
When you say "put the choke up" do you mean when you try to engage it? Hot start, cold start, or just in general? Do you try to engage it the whole way? I have a '93 750, and on warm days if I go more than about half lever it will stumble and stall.
