Kurt is right, the Honda swapped the position of the lever for reasons unknown. I'm sure they were good reasons, I just don't know what they are. He's also right that we have fuel enrichener valves rather than air chokes. The best way to check if you're chocking or not is to look at the carbs. On top you'll see 4 brass plungers all connected by a bar, when you move the choke lever the bar will make those plungers go up or down. When they are up, they "choke" is on. When they are down, the "choke" is off. The only time you ever need choke is when the bike is cold, and depending on your climate you may not need full choke. Just enough to get it started then let it idle about 5 minutes to get up to riding temperature before turning the choke off.
