This is about the V30 that didn't have spark on 2 cylinders a while back.
Is it OK?

It was threatening rain all day today, so I decided to stay in the garage
and wrench. I put the carbs back on it and finally got to hear what it
sounds like. I only ran it off a bottle of gas, though. Now, with the NH, I
just need to put the gas tank on and connect the two hoses, but wit the V30
it's not so simple. I put a fuel filter in between the bottom tank and the
fuel pump for anything that might come loose and get into the gas line from
the two tanks. I put some gas in the lower tank and put the fuel line that
normally goes into the carbs into a glass bottle and started her up. I
wanted to see the gas flow from the fuel pump into the bottle before I took
it down the driveway for a maiden voyage.

I didn't see enough gas flowing from the fuel pump, so I decided to pull
the mini plug and put test leads from the battery directly to the fuel
pump. I wanted to hear it run off direct power.

What I got was a hot spark. Oops. Didn't expect that. Tested it with an Ohm
meter and got continuity. Why did it spark? Plugged the mini plug back in.

Hit the key once again and now the only thing that happens is the light
dims. No starter, no click, just the headlight dims. I checked the fuse at
the starter solenoid. It is OK. Guess that makes sense since it is the fuse
for the whole bike according to the wiring diagram. I'm looking at the
wiring diagram, and it doesn't look like any of the fuses in the fuse box
are related to the starter.I was hoping I'd just blown a fuse, but it
doesn't appear so.

I've seen people short the terminals of the solenoid with a screwdriver and
the starter engages. Should I try this? Since I created the problem by
doing something similar, I hesitate to just do that without asking the
experts first. How should I track down the reason my starter no longer
engages and turns over the motor. I actually thought I was going to be
riding it around the block today...
