As Kyle said, the old "idle test" of an alternator doesn't generally work
for bikes. They don't start making real output until they're in the 2-2.5k
range as a general rule.

Find yourself a multimeter, and a service manual, Honda factory preferred.

What sort of symptoms are you trying to get a diagnosis for? Maybe we can
give you general direction.
