Does the 250 has a seat lock like the 750?  I've left mine there a time or 
two and felt foolish after retracing my steps and finding it there.

Object lesson for your kid:  Have him get a couple buddies, lift the bike 
into your pickup for the ride to the locksmith and unload it there by 
hand.  When the job's done, put the new key in YOUR pocket and have them 
repeat the load/unload process on the return trip before you give him the 
key.  It'll be awhile before he loses it again.
