I either use an impact driver, if that's what it's called--spring loaded and you hit it with a hammer, or I put a notch in the screw head with a dremel and tap it laterally with a chisel in the notch. If that doesn't work, I drill it out with left hand drill bits after treatment with Liquid Wrench.
The correct operation after cooldown makes me think it might not be the clutch diode.
