You say the pictured display is tapped into the meter back light. According 
to the wiring diagram, several back lights are coming off a common 
Blue/Brown lead on the 9-spin plug in the headlight. Wait, I just noticed 
it's not a CB750 like mine. YMMV.

If I were you, I would pull the 9-spin plug off the wiring harness in the 
headlight and check the voltage for each one with a multimeter. You're 
right in thinking that you could have resistance, which is a deadly thing, 
but it may well not be just that lead. 

If I read you correctly, you never get over 12.9 even at the battery with 
the engine revved? Funny timing, but  I've got a bike that does the same - 
I verified that with a trip around the subdivision yesterday. I may be 
jumping the gun, but I turned it off, came into the house, and ordered a 
new stator from Rick's. Duplicate bike I own got over 14V on the same run.

BTW, where did you get that voltage indicator? I'd like to put one on mine, 
something better than the R-Y-G.
