I had a similar problem. The battery on my bike would die every week or
so. I'd charge it over night and I'd be good for about a week. I had
already replaced the battery and ignition switch and a couple other things
do to failure - lots went wrong in 2015 / 16 (88,000 mile 1996 750). I had
my mechanic take a look and my battery was around 12.5 and maybe 12.8 above
3,000 rpms. He pulled apart the stator and saw a significant amount of
rust - price of living in Hawaii. We spent time really cleaning the rust
out of the stator and the amps went up to 13.5 or higher even at idle.
That was about 4 months ago and the bike hasn't had any problems. I have
also noticed it starts better. It doesn't sound like you have a rust
problem but cleaning the stator and brushes might be worth a try.
