Thanks DDT, I appreciate the advice. I do have the Honda workshop manual
and the Clymer manual as well as a model specific subscription to am online
shop manual from cyclepedia.com. I have read a great deal about the bearing
replacement and you're right it looks very delicate and would probably be
better suited for a shop at that stage. I have already started the
disassembly of the bike and am preparing to remove the engine Monday. The
way I look at it is I have three options. 1. Bring the crank to a pro and
have it done. (kinda pricey but reliable) 2, Source a used complete shaft
with rods and bearings and do it myself.(probably still a little pricey,
and possibly not as reliable. and 3. (this is my current leaning) I may
have a line on a complete engine which is said to have only 4000 miles on
it. Good compression, no rod play, smooth tranny. I won't have a chance to
see the motor until later next week but the seller is local and received
the engine as part of a package deal with several bikes he purchased. I
will make my final decision once i get a look at the motor. We shall see.
Once again thanks for your help.
