My daily rider is a 1983 gl650i silverwing. Non runner when I got it. Stator went out, pulse advancer coil went out and head gaskets. After all that it runs great and like I said, with 64k on clock it is my daily. Nighthawk charging system is field coil (supplies magnetic field) instead of permanent magnets. This is where the problem lies. My experience, what little I have, is all with permanent magnet types. My 81 cb400 hawk is permanent magnet type also
