Tunneling over ssh would take longer because of the overhead of ssh. I have
never really set up rsync before but this howto looks pretty
straightforward. http://transamrit.net/docs/rsync/ of course depending on
distro (and if i am reading right you are going to do this to a mac?) things
will be different.
