I will say, that working in telecom... Everything is developed and supported
on Solaris (usually Solaris 8 still)... I've got softswitches that run
Solaris on intel inside of the switch... You also see a lot of RTOS' in
telecom, LynxOS, VxWorks, QNX, etc...

One of the biggest reasons for that is NEBS certification... It's hard to
find NEBS servers that aren't built by Sun, or at least it used to be a lot
harder... The Netra is what pushed a lot of telecom apps to Solaris...
