and a couple more cents from what I can tell, Gentoo's portage and BSD's ports are in the top 5 if not the top 2 of pms's from any OS *nix, win*, or otherwise
having acquired my Linux knowledge starting with an RPM distro in 98, and using .deb distros more recently, I can say I am always surprised by the available transparency of portage.
