You can also do this with Fedora 8+ LiveCD but you have to be attached to the Internet and do a 'yum install dd_rescue' first to install the utility.

Use the -A option to work past bad spots (with zero-fill in the respective target sectors on the new disk - you will have to chkdsk /r c: afterwards - you should do this anyways). This works as I have done with my vista ultimate more than once when playing with upgrade options for win7 ultimate RC.
