You can also do this with Fedora 8+ LiveCD but you have to be attached to
the Internet and do a 'yum install dd_rescue' first to install the
utility.

Oh yeah, once you clone to the new disk, if that new disk is larger, Disk
Management should allow you to expand the NTFS volume out to the full size
of the new disk.

Why not boot knoppix linux LiveCD with the sick disk and a new disk (same
size or larger) and then use the dd_rescue util (under Knoppix) to clone
the sick disk to the new disk.  Use the -A option to work past bad spots
(with zero-fill in the respective target sectors on the new disk - you
will have to chkdsk /r c: afterwards - you should do this anyways).

 

This works as I have done with my vista ultimate more than once when
playing with upgrade options for win7 ultimate RC.

I would like to trash it, but not an option.  The disk drive is sick and I
am putting another drive on order.
Does anyone have experience using VISTA Ultimate features that is supposed
to allow moving the system to a new drive?
