Alternately they can find a new friend.
The question of remote support has been a sticking point. LogMeIn works
great for Mac and Windows. I find only Hamachi as a LogMeIn option to
install on the remote Linux computer. It is CLI and that doesn't
suffice for giving remote support. Similarly VNC.
Do I misunderstand VNC or Hamachi providing a GUI?
What about TeamViewer? http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx It
seems to fit the need but it just seems too straight forward. I felt
that way about LogMeIn when I first looked at it.
What are others using to provide remote support to user workstations?
TeamViewer does work well between all the supported platforms. If you
squint when you install TeamViewer on linux, it puts Wine "under the
covers." It does work and well.
