Oh no. Not dense... You reconcile to verify that your records and the banks records match. Some times you might find "extra" transactions in your account or in the bank statement. These need to be tracked down and figured out. In November I had someone run up $12K fraudulent transactions. It was very noticeable because of the size, but also because there were suddenly a large number of transactions listed that I had no record of. DL'ing transaction is just a quick way to ensure that you and the bank have the same entries. Always check these entries out and make sure that you understand where the transaction originated.
