I believe he looks this way presently because he's starting to get way too skinny!! He's taken many pics in that pose but never looked this way. The closest he's ever looked to being so frail is during the early 90's when he was sporting a typhoon and wearing all that racoon eye makeup.
When I saw him at Hotel Ganesvoort, I thought the same thing...very "sucked in" looking. He's always been thin of course, but as most know, the older you get, the more muscle mass you loose. Prince is physically starting to show his age. Well, it was bound to happen someday!
