You're stuck. The box thinks it's a DC and the domain does not agree.
In order to successfully run DCPROMO and demote the box it demands to synchronize with the domain, lest any changes made locally be lost. The fact that no changes were made locally doesn't matter in this instance, unless it is within your power to rewrite the product. You won't force the Domain to recognize it as a DC, and youcan't demote it unless it does, so you'll have to wipe it and scrub it out of the AD. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference." Now FDISK and reinstall. (Sorry) If your backup is no good or even untested in some time, pull off anything you'll need BEFORE YOU FDISK. You may also want to verify the health of your DNS setup to avoid similar issues, but more likely than not the issue probably relates more to the age and state of the box in question. "When I was a lad I had an XT with text based word processing and spreadsheet programs and I was happy to have them. Act" Its possible I'm wrong, and their is some solution I'm missing here, so feel free to hang on for a better answer. Hell, I'd love to have a better answer, having encounterred a similar issue. ----Original Message Follows---- From: Warren Cundy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: "NT 2000 Discussions" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "NT 2000 Discussions" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: NT->2k DC Upgrade stalled? Date: Tue, 9 Oct 2001 14:01:25 -0700 The domain is now Win2k. I upgraded the PDC, and was in the process of upgrading BDCs. My problem still exists: I now have this Win2k DC that can't even run DCPROMO.. when I try to reduce it to a member server, it says it can't authenticate with the domain, "Access denied" even when I manually enter the domain or enterprise admin accounts... what the heck should I try??
