That's my recommendation, but make sure the SQL Admins are aware of this change and that SQL backups are configured and running. (Most likely they'll be happier;) After reading the SQL lists recently I have heard nothing but headaches about using agents and trying to restore after problems...

However I do have the SQL Agent setup on the BE server. So just backup the backup files huh? I will give that a try. If just backing up the files, BackupExec will fail on directories containing the databases and log files (.mdf & .ldf) unless the SQL Server service is stopped. My preference is to let SQL Admins create their own backups within SQL Server and then let BackupExec back up these SQL Backups. I then exclude the directories containing the mdf and ldf files. Could this be your problem???? -Tim -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Ed Esgro Sent: Monday, January 21, 2002 9:06 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: BackupEXEC Backup exec help is about as good as a screen door on a submarine. I have a question. I have this one particular server. Every time BE backs it up. I get a drive not responding error. It always seems to happen when it is backing up SQL files and directories. If I deselect that folder, the error never occurs. Of course this is unacceptable, because I need to back up SQL files. Any thought?
