We had the same problem and never used the SQL agent.

You know what, I think you may be right. However I do have the SQL Agent
setup on the BE server. So just backup the backup files huh? I will give
that a try.
Thanks
Ed

Are you using the SQL Agent for BackupExec, or are you just trying to backup
the files? If just backing up the files, BackupExec will fail on
directories containing the databases and log files (.mdf & .ldf) unless the
SQL Server service is stopped. My preference is to let SQL Admins create
their own backups within SQL Server and then let BackupExec back up these
SQL Backups. I then exclude the directories containing the mdf and ldf
files. Could this be your problem????

Backup exec help is about as good as a screen door on a submarine.
I have a question. I have this one particular server. Every time BE backs it
up. I get a drive not responding error. It always seems to happen when it is
backing up SQL files and directories. If I deselect that folder, the error
never occurs. Of course this is unacceptable, because I need to back up SQL
files. Any thought?

Thanks

Ed

Well don't expect much help from their Tech Support.

Do you have some simple questions that we could help with?
