Ping IP-of-the-office-jet -t
Then unplug the officejet from the network. If you still see response there
is another device answering. Quite simple.

I thought of the test/example page at the officejet itself to ensure that
the device is working properly.
What is the model specification of the office jet ? (k80, t65, ...)

Are you a relative of Richard Tener ? Anyway...

How is the OfficeJet connected to the network ? Afaik most of them do not
have an internal Jetdirect card. If its installed at a print server you
cannot ping the officjet. Got to the printserver and check the status of
the
printdevice. If its directly connected to the network for any reason you
should check whether the IP address is still unique. Check if the
printdevice is able to spit out its test page too.

as far as i know it's just plugged in like anohter pc, the software is

server unless i am missing what you mean..?

Nothing working !!

This should not be too hard to find ! . No network connections at all
means that the NIC is not working. Or something very basic.....
