Here's the issue, can your employees/clients either live with the message
that the certificate is untrusted or have enough knowledge (and you may need
a website to download from) to add a new trusted certificate authority into
their browser(s)? 

If the answer is yes, go for using your own.
Otherwise consider springing for a certificate from a known authority.  You
will waste more time($) answering questions and troubleshooting user errors
than the cost of the certificate.
