No, it should me an very high topic of discussion on this forum. The software is by Veritas and it comes on a W2K cd (i cant remember if its server, pro or both) and all it does is take a system snapshot before and after an installation, builds an msi to tell what reg changes are made and what files go where based on the shots. It takes a little cleaning (for instance trend's virus scanner has a counter that is updated in the registry) but its pretty self explanatory. Ill look for an article on it. I had one, but I cannot find it. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Levis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 3:26 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: Remote deployment of hotfixes. Hm. I've never built an MSI. How is it done (or is that beyond the scope of this forum)? Just curious. > -----Original Message----- > From: Joel Musheno [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 3:23 PM > To: NT 2000 Discussions > Subject: RE: Remote deployment of hotfixes. > > > Im packing my own msi's right now, Im gonna see how it goes > for a while, > its just time comsuming to weed out all of the changes that > are made by > other programs during a hotfix install, but its pretty nice > to just drop > it into group policy and let it do its trick. > > -----Original Message----- > From: Ryan Malayter [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 3:12 PM > To: NT 2000 Discussions > Subject: RE: Remote deployment of hotfixes. > > > The same... we use login scripts under group policy. > > It would make sense for Microsoft to issue hotfixes in easy-to-deploy > .MSI > format, but no.... > > -ryan- > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Chris Levis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > > Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 12:32 PM > > To: NT 2000 Discussions > > Subject: Remote deployment of hotfixes. > > > > > > In my organization (50 users) I have the logon script check > > the registry to see if the hotfix for a particular Q number > > has been applied, and if it hasn't the script will install it. > > > > I'm wondering what the rest of you do (especially in big > > companies) to keep all your systems patched. > > > > thx > > > > > > __________________________ > > Chris Levis > > Applied Geographics, Inc. > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > 617-292-7125 x112 > > > > ------ > > You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp > > To unsubscribe send a blank email to > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > ------ > You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp > To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > ------ > You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp > To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------ You are subscribed as [email protected] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
