You can build your own MSIs using Veritas WinINSTALL LE, which comes (I think) on the W2K server CD, but I've found that it's not that dependable. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong; could you folks be another set of eyes?
I'm able to create the MSI and place it in an installation point that's accessible to all users. I'm assigning the package to the computers, so that it's installed upon startup. When the machine boots, it says, "Installing managed software xxx", then allows the user to log in, but the patch doesn't get installed. I've successfully installed McAfee ViruScan this way, but I'm having trouble with IE patches, specifically MS01-005. If this has been answered, I apologize for the repeat. I get this in digest format. ------------------------- Subject: RE: Remote deployment of hotfixes. From: Chris Levis <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 15:25:52 -0500 X-Message-Number: 18 Hm. I've never built an MSI. How is it done (or is that beyond the scope of this forum)? Just curious. > -----Original Message----- > From: Joel Musheno [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 3:23 PM > To: NT 2000 Discussions > Subject: RE: Remote deployment of hotfixes. > > > Im packing my own msi's right now, Im gonna see how it goes > for a while, > its just time comsuming to weed out all of the changes that > are made by > other programs during a hotfix install, but its pretty nice > to just drop > it into group policy and let it do its trick.
