Jacob, I think file fragmentation is probably your issue. One of our old 200
Mhz file servers has a 100 GB RAID-5 array and a Seagate AIT-1 tape drive (3
MB/sec native). It doesn't utilize the tape drive full tilt, of course.

Here's the performance info I got from our last BackupExec 8.5 daily backup:

Backup completed on 3/28/2002 at 6:16:48 AM.
Backed up 294134 files in 39369 directories.
3  files were in use
Processed 40,714,874,119 bytes in  6 hours,  30 minutes, and  53 seconds.
Throughput rate: 99.3 MB/min

When it was one, it said compression rate was 1:1.
