Dare I say it.....we have NT 3.51 servers still in production that run 6 months + without any hassles at all. (just checked one of them and it is at 310 days and still ticking)
A server is only as reliable as the weakest piece of software you have installed on it. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew S. But hey, if you have the latitude to reboot frequently, then more power to you. ============================================================== ASB - http://www.ultratech-llc.com/KB/?File=~MoreInfo.TXT ============================================================== -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2002 10:26 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: Re: Scheduling a reboot So do I, but I dislike "extended" downtime worse ... which is why I like to reboot NT4 servers occasionally. So much "crap" goes through the servers that their performance tends to degrade as they remain running. Having the BIOS(es) run a check on everything once in a while makes me feel warm & fuzzy. I like warm & fuzzy. Now, I agree, once a day is too much, but once a month isn't. I didn't have SQL on NT4, however. SQL on our W2K Server was such a joy - never reboot! :) And our Oracle software consultant required us to shut down and restart the server EVERY DAY. ?? Like the other prevalent thread today wrt CD-burning, it sounds a bit more like SysAdmin opinion than an industry standard/fact. Agree? Andrew S.
