We've had similar experiences with corrupt/incorrect video drivers. Did
you install anything from the "Drivers" section of
windowsupdate.microsoft.com?

Subject: NT to 2000 Upgrade Issue
I upgraded an IBM Thinkpad A21M from Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (SP6) to
Windows 2000 (SP2). I was able to do the upgrade with no issues. I
started to apply the security updates from the Internet. I did the
security roll up package and after it rebooted, it would freeze at the
Windows 2000 Logo Screen. It gets about 60% across on the status bar and
then freezes. I can get in under SAFE mode but nothing else under F8.
Any ideas?
