I think it really matters for which version of Novell you are using. If you
are using 4.1 then yeah, there is a major advantage to migrating to Win2K.
I am an old school Novell admin. I used that back in the 3.12 days. I
personally have no gripe with Novell.
A migration to Microsoft will be more tasking and a learning curve for you
if you haven't used it.
The best way would be to build your systems from scratch, assign permissions
login scripts, create users, DNS and DHCP scopes, there is a ton of stuff
that you wouldn't have to do by implementing an additional Novell server.

I guess the question you need to ask yourself is how much work and hours do
you want to put in to this task.

Subject: Novell

Hi there. For the time since the company started, I've been asked to provide
reasons to switch to an Active Directory only network, and get rid of Novell
Netware. This is in light of our netware server problems recentlya s a
result of a bad drive. The Netware folks say that Novell needs SCSI
hardware, and have estimated six grand to get everything back up.

There are strong objections from the Novell fans to switching to AD, citing
such issues as Win2k's speed degradatio for file access compared to Novell,
and loss of abilities to manage users and printers.

My question is, has anyone out there used Novell and converted to Win2K, and
if so, what experiences did you have? Good or bad, because if there *are*
issues, I definitely want to make sure I do the best thing.

Thanks for any help!

Tim
