I've used some promise ATA controllers to mirror two cheapo IDE disks. It
saved my lunch once - last check they had a $150 one and a $300 one. They
are faster than windows server mirroring and you don't have to worry about
the boot.ini file in the event of a failure.

As are decent RAID controllers. For a small server with only a handful of
users, a solid ATA RAID solution can be had for under $350.
