Nope, you need to change the HAL driver in device manager before you reboot. Actually, I believe you want to change the driver, then shut down and add the second processor.

I followed you up to do a system state backup. Then you say go to device manager and switch to Multi processor HAL (before adding the processor)? Then reboot? If issues restore from backup. But that isn't possible if the system doesn't boot. Next add the CPU? I thought I was supposed to do that before I change the HAL driver? Remove the CPU? Removing the CPU will not undo the change to the HAL driver. I appreciate the suggestion, but I just can't collate the steps. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew S. Create SystemState backup on local drive. 2. Go to Device Manager and switch to SMP HAL. 3. Reboot. If issues, restore from SystemState backup. 4. Power down and add the CPU. 5. If it doesn't boot, then remove CPU. I am adding processors to a couple of win2k servers. I know how to do it. I am just looking for some undo ideas in case the systems don't start up properly after the change. Does anybody know of a way to undo this process if it doesn't work? I am obviously making 3 backups before I do it and Emergency Repair Disks. Thoughts...
