I tried it ONCE on NT4. Ended up having to be a little inventive about how to choose the right HAL. Found three different M$ doc's that described three different methods. None worked.

Adding a processor on NT was about as simple as a heart transplant. Thanks James it is working now with two processors. I actually changed the driver, shutdown, added the processor and booted up. In any event, even if you were to install the second processor prior to changing the driver, it would not be detected until after you changed the driver for the HAL and rebooted - so in effect, it ends up the same either way. I followed you up to do a system state backup. Then you say go to device manager and switch to Multi processor HAL (before adding the processor)? Then reboot? If issues restore from backup. But that isn't possible if the system doesn't boot. Next add the CPU? I thought I was supposed to do that before I change the HAL driver? Remove the CPU? Create SystemState backup on local drive. 2. Go to Device Manager and switch to SMP HAL. 3. Reboot. If issues, restore from SystemState backup. 4. Power down and add the CPU. 5.
