I installed it without shutting down IIS first and I didn't have any
issues. With OWA working within the network I would have to say you have
another issue going on.  IIS doesn't know the difference between inside
and outside your network.

If you have used the ISS Lockdown tool  with or without URL Scan.  Stop
the 
IIS service before applying the SP.

Also, there is a TREMENDOUS DLL clean up operation that can rack the 
processor util around 100% for quite some time after the reboot.  It 
resolves itself.  DON"T try to debug it by doing stuff.  let it run it's

course.
